Please don't forget to come to the PTO Fall Festival, here at the elementary, on Saturday, September 27. Our class basket and project look quite amazing! I have seen many of the baskets and auction items. You will not want to miss this event! Looking at the picture below, can you guess what the 2nd grade project will be? You will have to come to the festival to find out!
What a week! We had an awesome week here in second grade! The sixth week of our reading units is a time to assess the skills that have been learned over the past 5 weeks. It is also a great time to do fun, engaging projects as well! The kids loved picking a state and city to send their letters to. We went an extra step and chose a school in their towns, in hopes of raising our chances with receiving a letter in return. This project is a great way to learn about our community, as well as others. It also gives us a chance to compare and contrast communities in the U.S.A. Through this project, we were able to learn about communities, letter writing, and geography. The kids really loved looking at and reading maps! We can't wait to see who will reply!
We had a fabulous time on our field trip! Please enjoy the photos below! The kids participated in seven different hands-on activities throughout the park. Topics that were covered in our stations included: geology, entomology, symmetry, predator vs. prey, hiking - tree identification, water pollution, and recycling. The students were very interested and engaged in all that was taught, even when they were hot, thirsty, and tired!
This field trip was free of charge and was put on by Purdue Extension, the Soil and Water District, and the Solid Waste District. Symbiosis Park is located south of Blue Ridge in a beautiful woods owned by Ken & Marilyn Fallis. The park is free to visitors and it is the Fallis' dream to give the community a place to learn about nature. If you are looking for something fun, outdoors, and cheap to do with your family, please consider visiting this lovely park! |
